Dig It: 003

Posted on by Joe Cavazos

Happy Wednesday, here's three things i'm digging this week.

1. My Friend Jim LePage has been working on a personal project called Crux Sola, Latin for "The Cross Alone."  He's been posting a new cross Illustration everyday since the beginning of Lent and will continue through Easter.

2. I use the Pocket App serial times on a daily basis.  It helps me avoid following rabbit trails throughout the day when I run across great content on the intrawebs.

3. The Innovator: Great story from freelance shoemaker, Mike Friton, on Innovation. Directed by Tristan Stoch from Cineastas.

Three things I'm digging this week.  If you missed last week's check it out here.

1.  My Dribbble friend Joshua Ariza has been working on these Breaking Bad illustrations over the last few months.  I'm a fan of the show but bigger fan of Joshua and his work.  Be sure to check it out and give him a follow on twitter while you're at it.

2. The only thing I dig more than "Retrograde" by James Blake is the music video, directed by Martin De Thurah

3. At the beginning of the year I was reevaluating my GTD tasking process.  I was using Actionmethod for keeping up with work/freelance and Clear App for my daily life task lists.

Then came Wunderlist.  I've been using it for the last month and loving it.  I wanted something that both Lulu and I could use to sync lists like grocery shopping and to see what's on each other's plate.  While it's not as robust at project managing as Actionmethod I've found the benefit of having a one-app  process out-weighs the limitations.

Every Wednesday I'm going to be sharing three things I dig.  Those things will usually be what's inspiring me, apps, music, artist, designers I'm into.

What are you digging today?

1. Inspired to Inspired by Nathan Yoder.  PS. Go to his site and check out his work, you won't regret it.

2. I made a call out on twitter for new music to listen to last week and my friend Brad Zimmerman didn't disappoint   Abby had me playing track 1 on repeat during our Saturday morning dance off.

3. I'm really, really, really digging Vine app right now.  Really.

Edge of Technology - Article Illustration

This was a fun illustration piece I had the privilege of working on for Answers Magazine.

The biggest challenge was making a 2D illustration feel like it had depth.  I used vector shapes stacked on eachother to give the feel that the man was standing in a tunnel.  Below is some of the vector shapes I started with.

My Dribbble Playoff Submission

A couple of weeks back I came across a contest that Squarespace posted on Dribbble.  Being a huge Squarespace fan and having a itch to work on something "just for the fun of it," I took the challenge.  While I didn't come close to winning the grand prize I did manage to get on the honorable mention list, which landed me a free t-shirt and squarespace 6 for a year.

It's truly an honor to get listed among these great designers and artist. Below is what I submitted. Be sure to check out the rest of the submissions.

Ad designs for Orange Thread Media

I recently had the opportunity to hook up with the team over at Orange Tread Media and work on a couple designs for the launch of their new Playback 360 Drive.  This is a visual worship library that comes with a huge collection of motion backgrounds, still images, and countdowns.

Most of my freelance work lately has been for clients that are in the process of turning big ideas/dreams into reality.  It's always a honor to be a part and look forward to more projects like this down the road.
