Go For Gold!!!!!

Posted on by Joe Cavazos

So last night my eyes were fixed on NBC watching Michael Phelps make history as he went for his eight gold. I'm sure there is enough youtubes about it online somewhere, but one of the things that really caught my attention was afterwards.  As soon as the black out , the voice of Morgan Freeman came on.  With images of Phelps swimming and cleverly placed text congratulating Phelps on his accomplishment.  As much as I hate the commercialization, I have to give them some props on this.  I have no idea what it takes to contract Morgan Freeman freeman for a voice-over, non-the-less I'm sure it cost more then a cheeseburger.   Not to mention the other costs that went into this 30 second production.  They invested in the WIN.

So what if he hadn't won?  What if he had seven instead of eight?  I'm sure VISA wouldn't have gone bankrupt.  To prepare for something that depends on a outcome of a event without having any control over it.

It just makes me think of how this could be applied to church communication.  We plan events, services, touch points, classes and so on with the clear clarification what the outcome will be.  Will people show up? Will they have significant life change?  WIll we make budget?  All these questions and much more can come up.  But we can learn two great lessons from VISA.  First , always pay up your credit cards monthly and secondly, is prepare to win!

Many times we do a great job preparing for the next event without looking pass it.  I don't believe in mind power, however I do believe that we get what we prepare for.  This week lets be challenge to win, and if we don't no one can say we weren't ready for it.  We got the biggest God on our side.  Not even Kobe & Lebron got anything on this.

God, Help me!  I can't do this alone.  As I try to plan prepare help me to always keep you in the mix.  Help me to look beyond the ideas and events and know that you are on my side.  And to realize that your plans are to prosper me.  More then wealth and stuff, because those things at the end of the day don't bring true joy.  That I may prepare for the WIN, and if there is a lost along the way that I get up and continue on.
